A vanity URL, or vanity domain name, is an easy-to-remember URL often used to promote a particular product or service or even an advertising campaign. In theory, vanity URLs are creatively linked to something making them easier to remember than a more random link.
Vanity URLs are about you, or your brand, or your product and therefore important for your brand identity, visibility and SEO.
With the rapid rise of the social network, it’s become equally as important to claim your name on every major social media site, or at least the ones you use, and you’d better do it fast too before someone else claims the name. So in a way URLs will also be protecting your name.
Using a consistent name across channels allows for multilayer branding reinforcement that creates strong name recognition.
If for instance your website is called google.com then you’ll have:
www.google.com | |
www.facebook.com/google
www.twitter.com/google
www.youtube.com/google |
So if you're looking at refining your online presence then claim your name, whether business or personal, on the following:
Social media
Twitter
Facebook
LinkedIn
YouTube
Google+
YouTube
Google+
Social sharing
Digg
Delicious
StumbleUpon
Reddit
Scribd

Hope this helps...:)

ReplyDeleteVery true.
ReplyDeleteFunny you call it that when vanity has been associated with posting too much pictures of yourself on Facebook, but you're right, it's always a good idea to secure easily recognizable domains to build websites on on top of your other online presence efforts.
ReplyDeleteQuite agree with all written above, it's really so.
ReplyDeleteSeo Consultant, that might be true, but plates with names are "vanity plates" and are used by celebrities to market their name. Same goes with companies, they use it to better or bolster their efforts in online marketing.
ReplyDeleteTrue los angeles. It's way better for you to have facebook.com/mynamemarketing than facebook.com/id=13i&abc3, right? People can just type in your brand name, and they'll instantly see you in Facebook.
ReplyDeleteI like all you posts, they are all very informative and useful. This one is not the exception! Thank you very much for your work and keep up!
