Toronto is Trending is a great example of how to creatively and originally promote a city. The site pulls in social media info and aggregates tweets, check-ins and blogs, and allows you to see the city through the eyes of the locals, which is just what you want to do when you're planning a trip.
It is an awesome tourism campaign from Tourism Toronto and a visually compelling and unique initiative. You can select categories, see the top trending topics for the week, how many people have checked into different venues as well as live camera feeds.
Will it help promoting the city though? Only time will tell really as a lot of participation would need to come from the locals and residents of the city. Regardless….really good work!
Shall we take that as a challenge to Oman's cities and their online presence? What would be the online campaign that makes Muscat/Sohar/Salalah pop?
ReplyDeleteWe should take it as a challenge but more on a national level. I'd be promoting Oman by having each single major city with its different traditions and attractions. Oman is beautiful and that would be a good way of showcasing its natural beauties too.
