Dar El Ezz scores 50k+ Facebook fans

The recently inaugurated Dar El Ezz dining complex in Nizwa has reached a staggering 50,000+ fans on Facebook in just a few weeks.
The page was created on April 17th 2014 and, as publicly stated by one of Dar El Ezz Senior Managers on his personal profile, started ‘going Viral’ even before the complex was inaugurated.
Awesome, isn't it? As days went by more and more people became fans of this extraordinary page, in fact, all of you reading are probably fans too. The complex opened its doors to the public on May 15th 2014 and since then the page was only updated twice but its fan base continued to grow.
So what’s the secret behind such Facebook phenomenon in Nizwa? Not sure; probably the people behind it wanted to create a big buzz only for the launch being confident that everyone from Nizwa and surrounding areas would be going to dine there anyway. It’s worth noting though that two of the three reviews the page has come from two ladies flown appositely from the US and Germany four days after the launch.
Thanks to social media the world is definitely getting smaller, isn't it? What is surprising though is that the Dar El Ezz Facebook page is followed by only 503 people based in Oman, that is 1% of the overall fan base while most fans of the page, 48,420 to be precise, which is 96.4% of all fans, come from...erm...well, you’ll never guess and it doesn't really matter, does it? Or maybe it does since those fans will never ever walk into the restaurant and taste the food.
What I’m trying to say is that nowadays whatever you do on Facebook and other online platform (especially fake reviews on Trip Advisor when it comes to restaurants) can be easily discovered, so you either play by the rules or get busted. It's as simple as that.
PS: if you look at the page you’ll probably notice that it is linked to the the Cave Facebook page which happens to have 52,465 fans with only 1,275 of them from Oman...coincidence? ;)

  2. It's shameful that companies use these useless marketing tactics, why not getting a professional to handle communication rather than clowns?
